Now at the halfway mark of the Paris Games (wherein my own country of Australia is performing incredibly well), it remains a source of great pleasure and relief that the incredibly innovative ‘levitating’ Paris Games Olympic cauldron continues to operate exactly as its brilliant designer intended.
A tribute to the French brothers who invented balloon-travel, the light within the giant floating orb isn’t actually fire at all – it’s a combination of water mist and LED lights, thereby safely lighting up the night sky above the famed City of Lights.
My thanks to Mr Hamish Rotstein for this gorgeous photo, taken on the night he was attending these Games as part of his epic 50th birthday celebrations.
